The Mutiny Mermaid Mixer Holds Swim/ Run Relay for Women

St. Croix mermaids made a big splash at Cane Bay Beach early Sunday morning, May 19. The Mutiny Mermaid Mixer, a non-competitive swim/run relay event just for women, was hosted by the Virgin Islands Triathlon Federation and supported by Mutiny Island Vodka.

Participants registered on race morning as swimmers or runners. Once registration was closed, 16 two-person teams were formed by random selection. The first teammate completed a 400m swim in nearly perfect swim conditions, then she handed off to her runner, who ran a fairly flat-out-and-back 2 miles.

The event focused more on building new friendships and less on speed and time. Participants, of all abilities, shapes, sizes and ages, were thrilled with the non-competitive vibe and being paired with women they may have never met. As the runner crossed the finish line, she was handed two finishers’ awards, one of which she was to share with her teammate after the race.

The Virgin Islands Triathlon Federation thanks the following individuals and businesses for donating raffle prizes: Belle Sorelle, Mutiny Island Vodka, Jan Mitchell, The Frame Up, Brin Goldman-Ray, Dulcie Crowther and Heidi Snow.
