Sunday Will Be Mostly Sunny, Hazy, Scattered Showers, 89°F – EXCESSIVE HEAT –

VI SOURCE WEATHER UPDATES

! The NWS has noted that warm weather is expected again on Sunday, with a chance of precipitation. An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for portions of Puerto Rico and the USVI from 10 a.m. Sunday until 6 p.m. Additionally, Saharan dust is forecast to be prevalent in the atmosphere, causing a hazy sky.

SUNDAY’S WEATHER FORECAST: 6/16/24

Happy Sunday!

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a chance of scattered showers. Saharan dust in the atmosphere may cause a hazy sky. The high temperature will be approximately 89°F, 31.6°C, with winds out of the southeast at about 10 mph. The Heat Index is expected to be high, and staying hydrated and cool is essential. The chance of rain on Sunday is roughly 30 percent. 

Sunday night will be partly cloudy, with a chance of scattered showers. The low temperature will be approximately 81°F, 27.2°C, with winds out of the east-southeast at about 10 mph. The possibility of rain on Sunday night is roughly 30 percent.

Below: Infrared satellite imagery obtained at 7:00 p.m. AST on Saturday indicates a partly cloudy sky around the USVI and Puerto Rico. Showers and thunderstorms are possible.

MARINE WEATHER UPDATE

On Sunday, the seas will be approximately 2 feet. Winds will be out of the southeast at about 5 to 10 knots.

On Sunday night, the seas will be approximately 2 feet. Winds will be out of the east-southeast at about 10 knots.

The water temperature is approximately 86-87°F, approximately 30-30.5°C.

HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS

Rip Currents: The risk of rip currents is projected to be low across most of the region on Sunday.

TROPIC WATCH

Tropical Activity: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring an area in the Gulf of Mexico for possible cyclonic development next week. The NHC notes that a tropical depression may form. Additionally, the NHC has forecast that an area of low pressure may form northeast of the central Bahamas next week.
