In a bid to ensure no one has to choose between essential medications and life’s necessities, Patient Assist VI is working to rally the community behind its cause. Established in 2012, this nonprofit organization has begun to offer hope to those grappling with medication costs.

To celebrate the generosity of its donors and the dedication of healthcare providers, Patient Assist VI is extending an open invitation to its Gratitude Gathering this Thursday, March 28 at Box Bar in Yacht Haven Grande, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. It’s an opportunity to recognize those whose contributions sustain their mission and directly impact the lives of patients, while also giving others who want to get more involved a chance to learn more, said PAVI’s Executive Director, LaAsia Campbell.

“Dedicated to the principle that everyone deserves access to vital medications, Patient Assist VI extends a helping hand to uninsured and underinsured patients. Our programs offer crucial support, bridging the financial gap between individuals and their prescriptions,” Campbell said about the organization’s mission and impact.

A recent initiative launched in 2023 targets Medicare patients enrolled in Part D prescription drug programs. By alleviating up to $250 of their yearly deductible and coverage gap, Patient Assist VI aims to ease the financial burden of essential medications. “Looking ahead, we also aspire to broaden our assistance to cover the costs of durable medical equipment,” Campbell said.

Central to their success is partnerships with local pharmacies such as Chelsea Drug Store and Drug Farm 2 Pharmacy, enabling Patient Assist VI to extend its reach across the territory. Their focus on aiding seniors has been particularly noteworthy, bolstered by support from the Community Foundation Virgin Islands.

Patient Assist VI typically aids individuals diagnosed with chronic illnesses such as asthma, arthritis, COPD, diabetes, and hypertension.

“We hope you can join us in supporting Patient Assist VI as we continue their vital work in our community,” Campbell said. “Your support can make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.”
