Police officially made an arrest in the June 10, 2023, killing of a St. Croix youth in Frederiksted, officials said Wednesday.

Police arrested Nkush Jayden James, now 18, shortly after the alleged murder, but because James was also a minor at the time, he was held at Golden Grove Correctional Facility for several months. On Valentine’s Day, James was officially charged with murder in the first degree and, unable to post $1 million bail, was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending an advice of rights hearing.

Saturday, June 10, a concerned citizen notified 911 of an unresponsive male in a vehicle in the vicinity of the old Queen Mary Highway Service Station, according to the police. When Emergency Medical arrived on the scene, they checked for signs of life with negative results. The victim appeared to have been shot multiple times to his upper body and succumbed to his injuries, the police report stated. The victim was identified by his next of kin as 16-year-old Amon Walcott, the report stated.
