Woman Arrested on St. Thomas for Assault

A woman was arrested on a set of steps in the area of Jala Jala on St. Thomas Friday for being a possible suspect in an assault that occurred in January, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau traveled to Kronprindsens Gade and completed an inspection to find the suspect of the assault on Jan. 21, according to the police report.

While conducting the inspection along with the Special Operation Units, CIB made contact with “Janet,” aka Yant Diaz, sitting on the steps in the area of #34 Kronprindsens Gade. Officers then took Diaz into custody and transported her to the Alexander Farrelly Justice Complex, the police report stated.

On arrival, a Spanish-speaking officer was contacted who advised Diaz of her Constitutional Rights, at which time she was charged with assault in the first degree, processed, and remanded to the Bureau of Correction. Bail was set at $75,000, the report stated.

This case is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Anyone with any information regarding this crime is urged to contact 911, Detective S. Rhymer of the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 or Crime Stoppers V.I. at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
