Theda Sandiford to Showcase ‘Blackity Black Blanket’ at International Fiber Art Festival

Celebrated artist Theda Sandiford has been selected to represent the U.S. Virgin Islands at the prestigious International Fiber Art Festival, World of Threads. The event, which is a global celebration of fiber arts and textiles, will feature Sandiford’s thought-provoking installation, “Blackity Black Blanket.” The festival will take place from Oct. 10 to Dec. 17, in Ontario, Canada.

Sandiford, known for her innovative approach to textile art, has garnered critical acclaim for her powerful and thought-provoking works. “Blackity Black Blanket” is no exception as it serves as a compelling commentary on the complexities of race, identity and belonging in contemporary society. This installation brilliantly weaves together strands of upcycled marine waste, culture and personal narratives to create a visual and emotional tapestry that invites viewers to reflect on the experiences of Black individuals and communities.
