George Victor Lepes Dies

George Victor Lepes

George Victor Lepes of the North Shore of St. Croix passed away on Aug. 4.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, he grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.  He graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in geology.  In 1968, he joined the Navy and served in Vietnam and Hawaii.  After his discharge in 1971, he traveled throughout the Caribbean and settled on St. Croix where he spent the rest of his life.

He farmed, growing vegetables, and later raising goats.  He was a long-time employee of VI Paving.  His favorite time was going to his cabin on the Pickerel River in Ontario, Canada, which he and his family built in the 1950s.

He leaves behind his sister, Marta Lépes, of Volcano, Hawaii; niece, Ily Allen and her two children, Ayla and Finn, all of Bowen Island, British Columbia and Canada.  He also left behind many good friends on St. Croix.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Schuster’s Crematorium LLC.
