Charmaine S. Mayers Ph.D.

The Association of Maternal Child Health Programs (AMCHP) has announced that the AMCHP membership has elected Charmaine S. Mayers, Ph.D., to serve as Region II director to the board of directors from 2023-2026. The appointment was shared during the annual business meeting held virtually on June 22.

New changes also included Marcus Allen (president-elect), Eden Bezy (Region V director), Martha Smith (Region VII director), and Dawn Bailey (family representative).

“I am honored to join the AMCHP Board of Directors as the new Region II director,” said Dr. Mayers. “I look forward to leveraging my experience as MCH director and my creativity and innovation to work with AMCHP and other board members for the betterment of the MCH population.”

As the new Region II director, Mayers will support AMCHP by determining policies, procedures and regulations for its conduct to ensure the necessary resources for the operation of AMCHP and its programs. She will also assist with monitoring the organization’s performance while representing the needs of maternal and child health (MCH) programs in her region.

Mayers is the Maternal and Child Health director at the Virgin Islands Department of Health, where she leads six federal programs and two clinics. She is recognized for using her creativity to develop health promotion and awareness activities to educate families about the importance of prevention and early intervention, resulting in increased community outreach and the program’s notoriety.

Some activities have included the Oral Health Fluoride Varnish Initiative, Diabetes Awareness Walk, Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Gun Violence Rally and the Children’s Mental Health Summit.

Mayers holds a Doctorate of Creative Leadership for Innovation and Change from the University of the Virgin Islands.
