Updated: Homicide Victim Identified by Father

The victim in Saturday’s shooting has been identified as 37-year-old Taurian Deveaux by her father, the V.I. Police Department reported.

A woman was shot and killed on St. Thomas in the early morning hours of Saturday, the V.I. Police Department reported.

VIPD was dispatched to the area of Commandant Gade on St. Thomas regarding shots being fired in the area. Upon arrival to the area and conducting an inspection, contact was made with an unresponsive Black female who appeared to have suffered at least one gunshot wound to her body, according to the police report.

Emergency Medical Technicians also arrived at the scene and checked the female for vital signs. At approximately 3:01 a.m. EMTs concluded that the woman did not have any signs of life, the police report stated.

The identity of the woman is unknown at this time, pending identification from her next of kin, police said.

This death marks St. Thomas’ ninth homicide of the year and brings the territory’s total to 16 since the start of 2023, according to the Source Homicide List.*
