VITFF Releases Update on Virgin Islands Track and Field Athletes

The V.I. Track and Field Federation shares information on Virgin Islands athletes who are competing on the high school and college levels.

Mikaela Smith

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Mikaela Smith, competing for Austin Peay State University, started off her Indoor Track and Field season at the BSC Panther Ice-Breaker in Birmingham, Ala. Mikaela finished 1st in her heat of the 1 Mile race with a time of 5:27.64. On Dec. 16, Mikaela competed on St. Croix in the Developmental No. 1 VI Season opener placing 1st in the 600m in 1:39.31.

Smith will compete next in the Ed Temple Invitational on Jan. 7, 2023, in Nashville, Tenn.

Rachel Conhoff

Virgin Islands Track and Field team member Rachel Conhoff, a senior at Ursinus College, started off her Indoor Track Field season at the Fastrack Season Opener in Staten Island, NY. Conhoff finished 1st overall in the mile race with a time of 5:06.80.

Conhoff’s next track meet will be the Collegeville Classic Invite in Collegeville, Penn., on Jan. 21, 2023.

(261) Mustang Akyra Joseph, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 1st Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Dec. 16. Joseph won the U17 150m in 19.74 and also placed 1st in the javelin throw with

14.44m and the long jump with 4.70m

Nathan Langley

 

Nathan Langley, from the Jolly Rogers TC, competed in the 1st Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Dec. 16. Langley finished 1st in the 150m in 18.13, first in the 300m in 40.65 and 2nd in the 600m in 1:35.70.

Mikey Dizon-Buman

Mikey Dizon-Buman, a freshman at Cornell University, competed in the first Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Dec. 16.  Dizon-Buman won the 600m in 1:31.11.

Dizon-Buman’s first meet with Cornell will be the Southern Tier Invite on Jan. 14, 2023, in Ithaca, NY.

Sofia Swindell, a sophomore at Lawrenceville School, competed in the Ursinas High School Opener, which was held at Ursinas College in Collegeville, Penn. Swindell earned 1st place in the triple jump with a mark of 36’.75” and 5th place in 55m hurdles with a time of 8.97. She ran the third leg on the 4×400 relay team, which finished in 1st place with a time of 4:10.89. The Lawrenceville School girls team placed second overall in the meet.

Nicola Peters

Nicola Peters, a junior at Sparkman High School in Alabama, started off her Indoor Track and Field season in Birmingham, Ala., at the Magic City Invitational on Dec. 3. Nicola ran the 60m in a personal record of 7.90 placing 3rd overall and helping her team to a 2nd place finish in the 4*200m relay.

On Dec. 10, Peters competed in the Holiday Invitational, also in Birmingham, Ala. She placed 7th in the 60m with a 7.96, and their 4*200m relay team finished 14th out of 58 teams.
