Participating in the first tournament of the year on June 4 at Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, several young archers showed offer their skills. The group has been practicing nearly every weekend since the beginning of year. This was their first opportunity to show what they have learned.
The USVI Homeschool Group was shooting recurve bows at 10 meters. For their first tournament, they were impressive. William Hayes was top scorer with 307, shooting 36 arrows. Right behind him was Morgan Raffa, who scored a 281. Seava Brin finished third with a score of 237 and Irene Hayes scored a 229. All archers shot 35 arrows.
The young men and women from the St. Thomas Archery Club were equally impressive last weekend. At 10 meters, Goddess George shot a very impressive 301 with her recurve bow. At 20 meters, the St. Thomas Archery Club had five competitors. Ford George led the youth with a score of 252. The other four competitors were in the adult division: Eloi George, Daiyaan Foster, Tyrone Reed and Randy Alonzo.
Eloi George was instrumental in helping put on this tournament on St. Thomas.
On St. Croix, St. Croix Archery announced a weekend of archery. It started Saturday, June 4, with a full schedule of events:
Starting at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, NASP warmups and competition.
Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the 10-, 20-, 30- and 40-meter distances warmups and competition (6 ends of 6, 36 scoring arrows)
Saturday starting at 3:30 p.m. (a second chance to compete) 10-, 20-, 30-, 40-meter distances warmups and competition (6 ends of 6, 36 scoring arrows)
Sunday starting at 12:30 p.m. warmups and competition for the 50-meter compound and 70- meter recurve (12 ends of 6, 72 scoring arrows)
Sunday at 3:30 p.m. the Best Overall Archer of the VI warmup and competition begins (2 ends at each distance 20-, 30-, 40-, and 50 meters)
On St. Croix, Archery is run by the USVI Department of Planning and Natural Resources’ Department of Fish and Wildlife, which is funded by United States of America Fish and Wildlife Service in cooperation with Sports Parks and Recreation and the St. Croix Archery Club.
