The Frederiksted Twin City Lions held its 10th Annual Luncheon for the homeless and needy on Saturday, Jan. 9. The luncheon is a signature project of the Twin City Lions, which was founded in 1994. Lions served 105 meals throughout the day.

The Lions adapted their usual practices to accommodate COVID-19 guidelines. Typically, residents fellowship and enjoy their lunches at gaily decorated tables under tents in the park.  Instead, because of the pandemic, meals were individually packaged off-site and delivered to the park.

Luncheon guests enjoyed lunches consisting of either fish, chicken or veggie plates with seasoned rice, potato stuffing, macaroni and cheese, and steamed vegetables. Bottled water, juice and care packages were also handed out.

“In the ten years we have been doing this luncheon, we have gotten to know the residents of Frederiksted and identified additional ways that we can serve this community. It was heartwarming to see friends taking food for friends that aren’t as mobile or don’t get out.  Truly, kindness matters,” said Lion Cheryl Jeremiah Ambrose, club president.

Lions give special thanks to Assistant Commissioner Renee Hansen of the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation for their assistance in preparing the park for the luncheon.  The public can now enjoy an unobstructed view of the adjoining beaches and the Frederiksted Pier. The club also extend thanks to Marco Trucking for the donation of a bin that was used to remove the debris.

The luncheon was a resounding success and remains a symbol of the Twin City Lions City Lions’ commitment to serving St. Croix and especially the community of Frederiksted. The club strives to uphold the International Lions Club motto “We Serve.”
