Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett made the following statement regarding the second round of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP 2.0):

“I am happy to announce that USDA has released a second round of aid to farmers. This second round will assist farmers who have suffered loss from the pandemic starting mid-April to the end of the year.

“I have worked hard to ensure that tropical and subtropical crops grown in the Virgin Islands were not excluded on any aid offered by USDA. CFAP 2.0 includes locally grown crops such as lemons, breadfruit, sugarcane, coconuts, bananas, melons, mangos, goats and more! Furthermore, I commend this program for simplifying the application process for specialty crop growers, ultimately increasing their involvement.

“Our farmers have undergone a pandemic as well as an unexpected D2 severe drought. This much needed financial assistance will help farmers stay afloat.

“For more information on this program, please visit USDA’s official website: www.farmers.gov.”
