One teen was killed and a second person was injured in a shooting Monday night in Estate Sion Farm on St. Croix.

The fatal victim was identified as 16-year-old Tintawe Christian of Sion Farm. It was the 18th homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, according to the Source’s homicide list*, the 35th in the territory.

According to the V.I. Police Department, at roughly 9:58 p.m. Aug. 17, the 911 emergency call center received reports of gunshots in Sion Farm, and officers were dispatched to the location.

Arriving at the scene, officers found two male gunshot victims. One victim was transported by ambulance to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment. As of Tuesday morning, he was listed in serious but stable condition.

Emergency medical technicians on the scene found no vital signs for the second victim, identified as Christian. Officers and detectives processed the scene and the investigation is ongoing, the police said.

Police urged anyone with information about the crime to call 911, the Crime Tip Line at 340-778-4950 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).

*The Source’s homicide list is based on reports from the V.I. Police Department, but unlike the police list or lists in some other media, the Source list does not include suicides or vehicular homicides, which cause a disparity in the number of incidents reported.
