V.I. History in Photos: Part 2

A collection of historical photographs and postcards from the Virgin Islands shows people in a wide range of occupations and hobbies.

These images are from Ronnie Lockhart of St. Thomas, who has amassed a substantial collection of historical Virgin Islands photographs and post cards over the years. A previous grouping in the Source showed well-known places as they appeared in the past.

Lockhart is a past president of the St. Thomas/St. John Friends of Denmark, the St. Thomas Historical Trust and a member of the Genealogical Society. He generously provided the Source with a sampling from his personal collection.

This St. Croix band during the Danish period has several elements of later quelbe or scratch music bands, including flute, such as Stanley Jacobs plays with the Sleepless Knights today; the gourd as a percussion instrument and guitar.
