Children become literate in a culture where literacy is valued. Communities working in partnerships with schools and families can help ensure a literate, safe and prosperous community. Therefore, the Office of Senator Kurt Vialet organized a book drive to benefit classroom libraries in public elementary schools that were destroyed by Hurricane Maria.
Vialet is humbled by the generous support of the community and extends a heartfelt thank you. He gives his appreciation to the following community partners who allowed him to utilize their establishments as drop off sites.

The book drive was a huge success and donations were distributed the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 22, to the Alexander Henderson Elementary School and Alfredo Andrews Elementary School.
Sen. Vialet believes that supporting the students and public schools is to the mutual benefit of all. “I remain humbled by experiences such as this; [I] will continue to advocate for literacy in our communities for the future success of this territory,” he said.
