In preparation for the International Small Fry Basketball Championships to be held in Orlando, Fla., the St. Croix Small Fry All Stars Basketball Team traveled to Naranjito, Puerto Rico, to participate in the Puerto Rico Small Fry Invitational Tournament held Jan. 11-13. The team placed second among eight teams.

The team finished pool play with a record of 3-0 with wins over Bayamon ABB (35-18), Arecibo Arvaja (43-30) and CIAPR (41-39). Unfortunately, the St. Croix team lost in the championship game to the host team, Naranjito Small Fry. The St. Croix Small Fry All Stars team was coached by Jose “Besse” Gonzalez, Raymond “Bladda” Cornelius and Robert Molloy, according to a press release from Guidance Sports Club Inc.

In additional preparation for the Small Fry International Championship, the team will be traveling to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, in March to participate in the Paradise Showdown Tournament. The championship tournament will be held in Orlando, Fla., April 15-18.

Small Fry Basketball is a developmental and highly competitive youth basketball program for players no taller than 5-foot-1 and not older than 12 years of age as of Sept. 1 immediately prior to the competition season.
