Wilmouth Alford Hughes Sr.

On Monday, Dec. 10, Wilmouth Alford Hughes Sr., loving husband and father of five: Howard M. Hughes, Charline Hughes Thorpe, Heidi G. Hughes Buckley-Harris, Robert A. Hughes and Wilmouth A. Hughes Jr., passed away at the age of 82.

In 1967, Wilmouth migrated to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, with his family. He worked at Comanche Restaurant, Elaina Daffron and Hess Oil Refinery, and Triangle Construction for many years until his retirement.

Wilmouth spent his days gardening, watching cricket and building things. He always shared the fruits of his labor. He was very handy and helpful to others. He was a good neighbor and good friend. He was blessed to be able to see how much he was loved and cared about up until the end. He loved the Lord until his last breath.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clunis Hughes; mother, Mary-Ann Mathila “Olive” Grayman; wife, Mary Alice McCoy Hughes; loving daughter, Heidi Hughes Buckley-Harris; and sister, Jean “Pepsi” Hughes.

Thank you to family, friends and neighbors who visited him daily during his illness.

A viewing will be held from 4-5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at Divine Funeral Services Chapel, 129 Peter’s Rest.

Services will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29. Viewing and reflection will be immediately followed by Home Going Service at The Word of Life Ministries Church, 393-A Work & Rest, Christiansted, USVI, with Pastor Cecil Lindsay. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
