The St. Croix Senior Collaborative is offering a class called “A Matter of Balance” to residents 60 or older on St. Croix. The training class consists of eight two-hour sessions. The goal of this program is to significantly decrease the number of falls experienced by participants in the class and, through cognitive-restructuring activities, assist participants in getting over their fear of falling so they can resume healthy, age-appropriate and health-appropriate activities.
The training course is an evidenced-based program that was developed by Roybal Center of Boston University. It has been widely distributed through 41 states and is now being offered on St Croix. It is the goal of the program to offer 10 classes to the public during this year.
Two classes are being offered this fall. One will meet on Wednesday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon at the AARP Office in Sunny Isle This class will take place from Wednesday, Sept. 26, through Nov. 14.
