Officers responding to reports of gunshots Tuesday evening in the area of Concordia in Frederiksted found a man, later identified as 20-year-old Marquise Benjamin, unresponsive at the scene, a V.I. Police Department news release said Wednesday.
It was the 32nd homicide in the territory since the first of the year, the 10th on St. Croix.
Residents of the area had called 911 at approximately 8:52 p.m.
Emergency medical technicians at the scene checked Benjamin for vital signs, but found no sign of life. Benjamin was then transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Forensic officers and a Criminal Investigations Bureau team were present and processed the scene.
