20-Year-Old Man Shot to Death in Concordia

Officers responding to reports of gunshots Tuesday evening in the area of Concordia in Frederiksted found a man, later identified as 20-year-old Marquise Benjamin, unresponsive at the scene, a V.I. Police Department news release said Wednesday.

It was the 32nd homicide in the territory since the first of the year, the 10th on St. Croix.

Residents of the area had called 911 at approximately 8:52 p.m.

Emergency medical technicians at the scene checked Benjamin for vital signs, but found no sign of life. Benjamin was then transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Forensic officers and a Criminal Investigations Bureau team were present and processed the scene.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding this homicide, or any others, to call the office of the St. Croix chief of police at 340 778-2211 , the Criminal Investigations Bureau at 340 712 6092 , 911 or the anonymous tip line Crime Stoppers VI at 1800 222 8477(TIPS).
