VIWMA’s Mandahl Convenience Center Open House Set for July 23

The V.I. Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) has scheduled the official opening of the Mandahl Convenience Center for Sunday, July 24. St. Thomas Northside and East End residents will now have a state of the art manned facility for the disposal of solid waste, household hazardous waste and other special waste items.
An Open House Event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23. This is an opportunity for the community to get acquainted with the operations, services and policies of the new facility and to meet with VIWMA operations personnel.
The Mandahl Convenience Center is the second of its kind for the territory. The first convenience center at Peter’s Rest on St. Croix has been a success. On St. Thomas, VIWMA looks forward to duplicating that success at Mandahl.
The convenience centers represent a new direction for the authority as it moves towards closing the open bin site system. Replacement of the open bin system with these centers is part of the VIWMA’s plans to improve the efficiency of solid waste collection and disposal services throughout the territory. The centers will have hours of operations and provide a greater level of service that the community expects and deserves.
Residents of the surrounding areas who utilized the former Mandahl bin site are encouraged to attend the Saturday Open House Event.
