Man Shot in Thigh by Pair of Gunmen

A man was treated at Juan F. Luis Hospital Sunday after being shot once in the thigh in the vicinity of the Campo Rico "Turf" area, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The name of the victim was not released by the police.

According to the report, at about 11 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call about possible gunfire in the vicinity of the “Turf.” Arriving at the scene, the officers saw a man bleeding from a wound in the upper section of his right thigh. He was sitting in the grass adjacent to a light pole on private residential property.

The victim said he’d been hanging out next to the gazebo at the Campo Rico Turf when he saw two unknown men, dressed in all black and with their faces covered, firing shots towards him. He began to flee the area and was shot once in the right thigh.

Emergency medical technicians immediately transported the victim to hospital for treatment.

The victim told police he couldn’t provide any information regarding the identity of the individuals who shot after him, nor any reason as to why anyone would want to shoot him.

Investigators found 17 shell casings at the scene.

Police asked anyone with with additional information about the case to phone 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
