DOE: Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments to Begin March 14

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDOE) will administer the end-of-year Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments in English/Language Arts and Mathematics to public school students in 3rd – 8th grades and 11th grade beginning Monday, March 14. The testing window is open through June 17.
This is the second year DOE will administer the online tests that are aligned to the territory’s new, higher academic standards adopted in 2010. Smarter Balanced test results provide teachers and parents with more accurate information of how students are performing on the path to success after high school. The tests were administered to students for the first time at the end of School Year 2014-15.
Following are the 2015-16 schedules for Smarter Balanced testing:
St. Croix District
Schools will not conduct testing by grade level. Rather, schools will set their own schedules and are communicating directly with parents about test dates.
St. Thomas-St. John District (by grade level)
1) Elementary School schedule (2 school weeks for each elementary grade):
6th Grade: March 14 to April 1
5th Grade: April 4 to April 15
4th Grade: April 18 to May 6
3rd Grade: May 9 to May 20
3) Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School schedule:
6th Grade: March 14 to April 1 (2 school weeks)
7th Grade: April 4 to May 6 (4 school weeks)
8th Grade: May 9 to June 3 (4 school weeks)
4) Addelita Cancryn Junior High School schedule:
7th Grade: April 4 to May 6 (4 school weeks)
8th Grade: May 9 to June 3 (4 school weeks)
5) Sprauve Middle School schedule:
7th and 8th Grades: May 23 to June 10 (3 school weeks)
6) Charlotte Amalie and Ivanna Eudora Kean High School schedule:
11th Grade: April 11 to June 17
