Mapp Nominates Usie Richards to Casino Control Commission

Gov. Kenneth Mapp on Thursday nominated former V.I. Sen. Usie R. Richards to serve as a member of the Virgin Islands Casino Control Commission, Government House announced.

The governor forwarded his nomination letter to the Legislature on Thursday.

Richards was a Virgin Islands senator for 10 years, including serving as president of the 27th Legislature.

He was president of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation from 2004 to 2014, and in 2014 was elected president of FIBA Americas, the organization that represents the International Basketball Federation in the American continent, with jurisdiction from Canada to Argentina. In 2015 he was added to the executive board of the Association of the Pan American Sports Confederation.

Casino Control Commissioners serve five-year terms.

In his letter to Senate President Neville James, Mapp urged the Legislature to act promptly on the nomination as a “favorable confirmation will enhance the board’s ability to meet its busy agenda.”
