V.I. Pace Runners Releases Results of 34th 3Kings Mile Road Race

2016 3Kings Mile Road Race runners compete Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club took a break during his first indoor track season as a freshman at University of Arkansas Pine Bluff to improve on his 2013 first-place performance in the 3Kings Mile. His first place finish on Saturday in the 34th 3Kings Mile Road Race, with a time of 4:22, led a group of runners that included multiple winner Billy Bohlke, his sister Mikaela Smith, who was the first female finisher, and his mom, who has a been a multiple winner of the event as well.
Malique Smith ran 4:26 as a sophomore at St. Croix Educational Complex High School. Rodney Griffin St. Croix Track Club ran a strong race and finished second in 4:37; Martin Burrows, age 42 and from Sweden, finished third in 4:40. The field also included V.I. National Track and Field Team members Adrian Durant, who ran the race as a child with the Hounds and Foxes Track Club. He is now the head track and field coach for Cornell University and national coach for the Virgin Islands. Leon Hunt, a long jumper for the V.I. National Track team and CAC University Games medal winner, and Jordon Sartor-Francis, a senior at the U.S. Naval Academy and V.I. National Track and Field team member, also participated in the race.
Mikaela Smith of the St. Croix Track Club and sophomore at St. Croix Educational Complex High School moved up from the Children Race, which she won several years in a row, to take first place for females in the 3Kings Mile. Her time was 5:29; Ebaa Jernmark-Burrows from Sweden in a very close race was second in 5:47 and Mireille Smith, Mikaela’s mom, was third in 5:49.
