911 Reports Gunfire in Frederiksted

The 911 emergency call center received a report Tuesday afternoon of gunshots fired at Hospital Street in the vicinity of the Danish Garden in Frederiksted, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The call was received at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday. Responding officers met with the apparent intended victim of the shooting, a 19-year-old man, who told them he’d been repairing his vehicle when he heard two gunshots.

The intended victim told officers that he then saw an unknown black man, wearing a black T-shirt and grey pants with a shirt covering his face, shooting at him. The intended victim ran away from the scene and was unharmed in the incident.

Police said two parked vehicles were damaged from the discharge of gunfire and forensic officers found casings at the scene. A person of interest was detained by officers but was released due to lack of evidence.

Investigating officers urged anyone with information about the incident to phone 911 or contact the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 or online at  www.crimestoppersusvi.org.
