Two men who appeared to be trying to rob the Napoleon’s Pizza in Petger’s Rest Friday exchanged gunshots with a man who had been waiting outside, the V.I. Police reported Sunday.
According to the police report, responding officers got the following story from a man they found at the scene:
The man told police he and his his wife were sitting in their vehicle outside of the pizzeria Friday at around 9:30 when they saw two armed men, each dress entirely in black, enter the restaurant.
The man said he pulled out his personal firearm and discharged a gun shot into a flowerpot to distract the suspects. One of the two men came out of the establishment and fired at the complainant, who returned fire as the suspect fell to the ground, stood up and fled from the scene heading south.
The bystander said the second suspect fired twice at him from inside the pizzeria, through the plate glass window, then ran out the door and fled in the same direction as the first man did.
No one was injured during the exchange of gunfire and the matter is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
