St. Thomas Subway Shooting May Be Self-Inflicted

Police on St. Thomas are interviewing a 37-year old-man who was shot in the leg while sitting in the Subway restaurant in Tutu Park Mall and suspect the man may have accidentally shot himself. Police said their investigation revealed that, after the man was shot, he left the business and drove himself to the Schneider Region Medical Center.

The shooting happened a few minutes after 7 p.m. Thursday. Police say several patrons were in the restaurant and told police they heard the gunshot and then saw a man limping out the door. Police spoke to the victim at the hospital who initially told police he did not know who shot him and said he does not know why anyone would want to shoot him.

Officers speculated the injury may have been accidentally self-inflicted, saying it is not a rare occurrence

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau continue to investigate the matter.
