Ricardo Richards School to Reopen Tuesday

The main water line into Ricardo Richards Elementary School burst sometime over the weekend, forcing the school to send students home due to a lack of running water, according to the Department of Education. Classes are expected to resume normally Tuesday, said department spokeswoman Ananta Pancham in an email.

The burst water main was discovered Monday morning after there appeared to be no water pressure on campus. Principal Colleen Williams called in the district facilities director, William Matthew, and he brought in a contractor to fix the problem, according to Pancham.

"The line is about three feet underground, so they had to dig," Pancham said. About 50 linear feet of pipe was replaced. Most of the water flow was outside so there was no damage to the campus or classrooms, she said.
