Magens Bay Authority Defends FY14 Budget

Magens Bay Authority Chairman Robert Morõn spoke to the Senate Finance Committee about the authority’s budget and plans for the year.

Magens Bay Authority is responsible for the overall management of Magens Bay Park, Drake’s Seat and Smith Bay Park. Budget and management are largely divided into two segments, for Magens Bay and Smith Bay. Magens Bay Park’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget is $1.599 million, Morõn said. Of that, $710,000 is for salaries and $279,000 for benefits. Contracted services account for another $52,000 and maintenance and supplies another $100,000.

Smith Bay Park’s budget request is $235,000, with $110,000 for salaries, $53,000 for employer benefit contributions and $75,000 for police security taking up the largest portion of the budget.

No votes were taken at the information gathering hearing. Committee members present included Sens. Clifford Graham, Myron Jackson, Terrence “Positive” Nelson, and Nereida “Nellie” Rivera-O’Reilly.
