Victim ID'd as Police Seek Driver in Deadly Hit-and-Run

Police are still hunting for the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident Sunday morning in Christiansted.

The community is asked to be on the lookout for a black or dark colored Suzuki Vitara, Grand Vitara or Sidekick that left the scene of the accident.

The victim has been identified as Naldine Foster Hector, age 59. Police said Hector was walking with her four-year-old grandson in Christiansted on North Shore road in the area of the doctors’ offices just west of the District Court, when she was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render assistance. A concerned citizen found the minor child at the scene and contacted police.

Police are asking the community to help them find the vehicle, which is likely to have damage to the front end. That could include damages to the left or right bumper, the front grill, the hood or front windshield. Damage could even be on either side panels or doors.

Police have asked all body shops and car repair businesses on St. Croix to call immediately if they see a vehicle fitting this description. Anyone who may have been driving in the area around that time and saw anything unusual can report it to police immediately. Officers are also asking the person who is involved in this accident to contact a police officer or come to the police station.

This case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Traffic Investigation Unit.

Police also reminded the public that anyone drinking alcohol should not drive. Instead, he or she should have a designated driver or arrange for an alternate way to get home. DUI checkpoints will continue to be in effect on St. Croix and in the St. Thomas/St. John district through the end of the Labor Day holidays.
