Police Investigate Robberies, Assault

Police on St. Thomas are investigating two first-degree robberies and a separate first-degree assault that occurred over the weekend on Kronprindsens Gade. A man was shot in his hand in the assault.

The assault was reported to police at about 2 a.m. Sunday. The 25-year-old male victim told police he was walking near Club 75 when he heard shots being fired. He said he ran toward the Market Square and noticed that he had been shot in his hand.

A private vehicle took him to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. The victim said he did not see where the shots were fired from and did not know why anyone would shoot at him.

Also Saturday, police responded to a report of a first-degree robbery at the Raad Convenience store on Gamble Gade. The store owner told police that when he opened his store for business at about 6:40 a.m., a young Hispanic male came in and started shopping. A few minutes later a masked Hispanic male came into the store and pointed his handgun at the customer and began striking him with the gun. Another armed and masked suspect entered the store and demanded money from the cash register, which he was given, along with about $400 in phone cards.

The two suspects then fled the store and the customer who was assaulted also left the store.

Forensic technicians and detectives processed the scene and began the investigation.

In a separate incident, a woman told police she was walking on the Altona road at about 9:25 p.m. Friday when she was approached by a slim male wearing a dark colored hoodie over his head. The man pointed a small handgun at her and told her not to move.

The woman said she began running and dropped her purse. The victim said the man picked up her purse and ran toward the bridge on Veterans Drive.

These cases will be followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau Detectives.
