Tourism Launches Promotion in Denmark

In an effort to draw more visitors from Denmark to the territory this summer and fall, the Tourism Department announced a new promotion, according to a press release issued Monday.

As a result of aggressive promotions and new charter flight service from Denmark to St. Croix with a connection on Seaborne Airlines to St. Thomas, in 2012 the territory welcomed more than 16,900 visitors from Scandinavia, Tourism claims, representing a 129 percent increase from the previous year.

According to the release, Denmark has traditionally been the largest international tourism market for the territory, with the majority of guests visiting St. Croix.

Travelers who book the current promotion will receive a $150 instant credit on bookings of five nights or more and an additional $150 instant credit when booking another back-to-back five-night stay at a hotel on a different island within the territory.

The offer may be booked now through July 31 for travel between May 1 and Oct. 31.

"We designed the offer to appeal to the Danish visitor whose average length of stay is longer than the typical U.S. visitor,” Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson Doty said in the press release, as well as to encourage exploring multiple islands within the territory.

"This helps all islands to benefit while providing a rich and diverse experience for the visitors as they sample the unique offerings of each island," Doty said.

Participating hotels on St. Croix include The Buccaneer, Club St. Croix, Colony Cove, Divi Carina Bay Resort, Hibiscus Beach Resort, Holger Danske Hotel, Hotel Caravelle, Hotel on the Cay, The Palms at Pelican Cove, Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort and Spa, Sand Castle on the Beach and Tamarind Reef Resort.

St. John hotels include Caneel Bay, St. John Villas, Great Expectations and The Westin Resort and Villas.

Participating hotels on St. Thomas include Anchorage Beach Resort, Best Western Plus Emerald Beach Resort, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, Crystal Cove, The Green Iguana Hotel, Island Beachcomber Hotel, Frenchman’s Reef and Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort, Paradise Cove Cottages, Pavilions and Pools, Point Pleasant, Sapphire Beach, Sapphire Village, Secret Harbour Beach Resort, Sugar Bay Resort and Spa, Two Sandals by the Sea and Windward Passage Hotel.

Doty lined up the promotion during a visit to Denmark last month.

Reservations for this promotion can be made through Danish tour operators including Nyhavn Rejser, Risskov Travel Partner, Stjernegaard Rejser, Strobel Travel, Team Benns, and Profil Rejser.
