Lighthouse Mission Benefit Scheduled for Feb. 12

The community is invited to a dessert buffet and coffee bar at Tutto Bene Restaurant to benefit the Lighthouse Mission from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Tickets are $25. The event will feature taste-size desserts from local restaurants, and the coffee bar will be served by Twin City Coffee House. Caribbean Community Theater (CCT) pianist Patrick Baron will entertain guests on the baby grand with Lionel Downer joining with vocals.
The silent auction is sure to offer great opportunities to bid on jewelry art, restaurants, hotel and excursion packages, as well as some "priceless" entries. For a preview of auction items go to ww.facebook.com/Lighthouse.Mission. One item for auction is an original work of art by a man named Glen who was once homeless on St. Croix. Beaten and bruised, he decided it was best to reunite with family in the states. Volunteers from the Lighthouse provided a suitcase, new clothes, a good night’s sleep at a hotel and cash to cover expenses on his journey the night before he traveled. Glen now lives stateside and stays connected with the Lighthouse Mission on Facebook. When we asked if he was interested in submitting a piece of art for the Lighthouse benefit, he said, “Thank you for thinking of me. It’s an honor. I will always help when you need!“
The Lighthouse Mission is a faith-based community service center with a mission to "Shine the Light of Jesus" into Christiansted through programs of education and compassion. Serving meals to the homeless and providing clothing, toiletries, showers and laundry facilities promotes communication and relationships that lead to personal growth and life changing decisions. An after-school program provides Biblical principles of character development, homework assistance, outdoor recreation, snacks and practical arts, while building relationships with parents and siblings.
Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. affirmed the mission’s efforts, writing, “You have been instrumental in providing humanitarian assistance…to restore promise and security to the lives of those who have been torn down by circumstance. Your concern for this community shines as a beacon of hope and is a reminder to us all that through compassion for our fellow citizens, we are able to help others find a deeper meaning and purpose in life.” A luncheon for four with Gov. John P. deJongh and First Lady Cecile deJongh will be offered for bid at the event.
