Tickets on Sale for Animal Care Center Gala

Tickets are still available for the Animal Care Center of St. John’s winter gala next weekend, committee chairman Kelly Cruikshank said Thursday.

The money raised at the gala helps to fund the Animal Care Center’s activities, including operation of the shelter. Cruikshank said last year the event raised $21,000.

The Jan. 19 gala includes a silent auction, a raffle and a sale of artworks by Carson Tregdett, Lucy Portlock, Livy Hitchcock, Elaine Estern and Deborah St. Clair. Additionally Hitchcock will do on-the-scene sketches that will be available to gala goers.

Cruikshank suggested that those who want sketches make a donation to the Animal Care Center.

The gala, which replaces the Christmas for the Animals event held in previous years, begins at 6 p.m. at Helen Simon’s Great Cruz Bay home called L’Autre Monde.

This year’s theme is an Evening in Paris, and Simon’s house will be decorated as a Parisian café. Guests are also encouraged to dress the part.

“Wear a beret or a boa,” Cruikshank said. “It’s going to be a really fun time.”

Tickets run $125 and include appetizers and an open bar. Music will be provided by Linda Grace and her band.

Tickets are on sale at the Animal Care Center’s shelter near the Elaine I. Sprauve Library in Cruz Bay, at Connections in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay, St. Johnimals at Wharfside Village, St. John Hardware, Nest at Mongoose Junction, and Catered To at the Marketplace.

Simon’s house is located at 300-44 Great Cruz Bay Road. While there will be parking challenges, Cruikshank said, parking will be available along the road and at the boat launch.
