Man Shot to Death in Estate Thomas

A man in his 70s was shot to death Tuesday night, and police are searching for a suspect who reportedly fled from the scene, the V.I. Police Department reported.

It was the 26th homicide on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year, the 56th in the territory.

According to the preliminary report, neighbors in Estate Thomas told police that, at about 9:45 p.m., they heard a single gunshot outside their residence. When family members went outside they saw the injured man, who was later identified as Michael Greer.

One man in the area told police he heard a struggle and then a single gunshot. Other witnesses told police they saw a man in a white shirt running away from the scene.

The victim was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
