Bob Owens Softball Tuesday Winners: Hummers, Lumberjacks, Stealers

Brandon Biggs powered the Lumberjacks to victory in game two.The Hummers, Lumberjacks and Stealers were Tuesday night’s winners in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League at the D.C. Canegata ballpark. The Hummer outslugged Set it Off, 24-18; while the Lumberjacks and Seaborne Stealers were lopsided, 10-run mercy ruled winners by scores of 23-12 and 15-5, respectively, over the Colianni and Colianni Enforcers and the Anchor Dive Pirates.

Hummers 26, Set it Off 18

The National Guard Hummers, in a slugfest, were mild upset winners over the league leading and defending champions Set it Off by a score of 26-18 in Tuesday’s opener. The champs were beaten at their own game as the Hummers proved that they are able to match them, blow for blow, in power hitting.

Led by Arthur Canaii (4 for 5, three homeruns) at the plate, the victors finished with 24 runs on 26 hits and four errors.

Set it Off had 18 runs on 20 hits, led by master blaster David Samuel who finished 4 for 4 with two homeruns.

Lumberjacks 23, Enforcers 12

The Lumberjacks blew a close game wide open in the bottom of the fourth before taking it in five by a score of 23-12. The cellar dwelling Enforcers, coming off of a shocking upset of the defending champions Set it Off last week, were looking good early and seemed primed to pull another shocker. However it was not to be, as the Lumberjacks unleashed their late offensive barrage.

It was the Lumberjacks with 23 runs on 20 hits and two errors, while the Enforcers finished with 12 runs on 13 hits. The winning pitcher was Greg Miller and Max Soto got the loss.

Brandon Biggs, who had a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the fifth, led the Jacks at the plate. He was 3 for 5 with two homeruns and six RBIs.

Stealers 15, Anchor Dive 5

In Tuesday’s late game the Anchor Dive jumped out of the gate looking like world beaters and erupted for five first inning runs against perennial powerhouse, Seaborne Stealers. However that would be all the runs Anchor Dive would score as the Stealers came back to cruise to an easy 15-5 victory.

It was the Stealers with 15 runs on 18 hits, and the Pirates finished with five runs on eight hits and two errors. Sam Ramos got the win on the hill for the Stealers, while Edwin Sankitts got the loss.

Top batters for the winners were Steve Simmonds (4 for 4 with a homerun and five RBIs), and Dwayne Harvey and Kenny Milligan were both 3 for 4. For the Pirates, Daren Lewis was 1 for 2 with a homerun and three RBIs.
