Kevin Maddock Dies at 63

Kevin Maddock Kevin Maddock died of cancer peacefully in his home on Water Island on Nov. 9. He had just turned 63. Kevin was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971. He met his wife, Cindy Shearer, in 1981, and in 1986, they moved to Water Island, where Kevin built their home overlooking the sea. Kevin often said that it wasn’t really his dream house, because even in his dreams, he never envisioned living in such a magical spot.
Kevin loved the water, and after many years doing custom woodwork, he traded in his hammer for a captain’s license and spent the last several years driving boats and sharing his passion for the sea with others.
He was an upbeat and generous man, who was happiest when he was working with others. Despite his illness, Kevin maintained a positive outlook and considered himself “the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” He lived a full, adventurous life and inspired many with the courage and grace with which he faced his disease. Kevin was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support he received over the last two years.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Sean.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Cindy Shearer; his sister, Christy Mills of Lord’s Valley, Pennsylvania; ten nieces and nephews; countless in-laws (and a few outlaws); a multitude of friends and fellows; his Water Island retrievers Gibby and Hoot; and the St. Louis Cardinals.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 18, at Hook, Line and Sinker.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to caringbridge.org or Continuum Care Hospice.
All funeral arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, 774-1464.
