Boys & Girls Club and AT&T Offer Broadband Project to Youth

Club members at the Boys & Girls Club of the Virgin Islands on St. Croix are participating in Project Y-BALE (Youth for Broadband Awareness Literacy and Education). The program will hold an event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virgin Islands, St. Croix Branch, 7 Market Street, Christiansted. It will offer relevant "hands-on" training in computer technology for youth on St. Croix. The goal is to educate youth on the value of wireless broadband in their communities, including cyber bullying and how to protect your personal information online by utilizing technology through a variety of media components, including television, radio, Web streaming and face-to-face education.
Some of the topics that could be discussed during the event include cyber bullying, teen blogging, creating your own YouTube channel, using broadband technology to stay connected, Internet-based homework help and more.
More than 50 area youth, staff of the Boys & Girls Club of the Virgin Islands St. Croix Branch and AT&T employees will be producing a one-to-two minute video emphasizing the importance of wireless broadband technology and what it means to their lives and communities.
