Fully Funded Residencies Being Granted for V.I. Artists, Writers and Composers

The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation of Baltimore, Maryland, has awarded a grant to subsidize writers, composers and visual artists from the U. S. Virgin Islands. Recipients are awarded two-week to one-month fellowships to Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA), the
internationally acclaimed working retreat nestled in at the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to the grant, each recipient will receive $250 for travel expenses.
Writers, composers and visual artists from these regions are encouraged to apply for an MAAF Creative Fellow 2013 residency as a means of concentrating exclusively on their creative work. Applications are currently being accepted for residencies between February and May 2013. The special postmark deadline of Oct. 1 is for U. S. Virgin Island residents only.
Applications are found at: www.vcca.com/main/apply Visual artists may also use the online application.
One of the nation’s largest and best-known artists’ communities, VCCA is a year-round working retreat, providing meals, private rooms and private studios to exceptional artists from around the world, hosting more than 400 individuals each year. VCCA Fellows have received international attention through publications, exhibitions, compositions and performances, and have received numerous awards including the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award and the MacArthur “Genius Grant.”
Created in 1979 to encourage continued development of the arts and to support arts programs on a regional basis, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation is dedicated to growth and appreciation of the arts throughout the region, the nation and the world. Foundation programs encourage the creation of new works of art, promote new relationships and ideas within the performing arts community, build new audiences, advocate for the arts in education and connect the arts and artists of the mid-Atlantic region to the rest of the nation and the world.
