St. Croix Woman Charged with Child Neglect

Christy Giffard, 21, was charged with child neglect about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after police were advised that she allegedly left her two children, ages 2 and 3, alone in an apartment with no electricity. The children were placed in the temporary custody of a social worker, the Police Department indicated in a press release issued Wednesday.

Police were dispatched to the apartment at the JFK housing community where concerned citizens said children were crying inside a locked apartment. Officers said they had to climb over the balcony to reach the children.

According to the press release, they saw there was no adult present, the apartment was in disarray and there was no electricity. Police placed the children in the care of a social worker and located Giffard.

She was placed on a $10,000 bail pending her advice of rights hearing.
