The Vikings and the Cobras were Sunday’s winners in the Raphael Jackson AA Baseball League. The Vikings avenged a Wednesday loss to the Hurricanes with a 3-0 victory Sunday at the D.C. Canegata ballpark. The Cobras blew out the Yankees 12-5 in the late game.
Vikings 3, Hurricanes 0
Vikings veteran ace pitcher Kenny Jackson was sharp Sunday as he went the distance in blanking the Hurricanes, 3-0. The Vikings brought out their top gun after the Hurricanes beat up on the younger team earlier in the week. Jackson scattered nine hits in keeping a potent Hurricanes lineup at bay.
It was the Vikings with three runs on five hits and the Hurricanes with no runs on three hits while committing five errors. Jun Belardo got the loss for the Hurricanes. Top batters for the winners were Stephen Walwyn and Jamari White, both 1 for 1.
Cobras 12, Yankees 5
Josh Torres continued his mastery over the defending champions as he pitches the Cobras to the lopsided 12-5 victory. It was the second time in as many starts that Torres had dominated the Yanks, limiting the Yankees to just four hits. But the four errors committed by his defense contributed mightily to the Yankees plating five runs.
The Cobras finished with 12 runs on 12 hits and six errors, while the Yankees plated five runs on four hit and four errors. Leroy Simmonds got the loss for the Yankees. Top batters for the winners were Angel Torres (3 for 4 with three RBIs), Jeffrey Bryan (3 for 4), and Javier Perez was 2 for 4. For the Yankees Dwayne Harvey and Khalid Gerard were both 1 for 1.
