St. Croix police arrested Kamal Barnes Friday in connection with a March 1 assault in Estate La Grange. Police said Barnes was identified as the person who assaulted a male victim by hitting him on the head and stabbing him.
Barnes, 26, was arrested just before 1 p.m. and charged with first-degree assault and carrying or using a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence.
Police said Barnes hit the male victim with a brick, and when the victim fell to the ground, Barnes stabbed him in the abdomen. The victim was treated and later released from Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center.
Barnes was held on $15,000 bail, which he was unable to post. He was remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action.
