Insular Superintendent Offers Condolences on the Passing of Gladys Abraham

St. Thomas-St. John Insular Superintendent Jeanette Smith-Barry offers condolences to the family and friends of Gladys A. Abraham, renowned local educator and leader in primary education, upon her recent passing.
“On behalf of the district of St. Thomas-St. John, I wish to extend sincere condolences to the family of Miss Gladys Abraham, who recently passed from this life,” Smith-Barry said. “Miss Abraham’s legacy will be forever etched in the hearts and minds of Virgin Islanders — not just for the wonderful work she did for so many years as a teacher and first principal of the school that now bears her name, but also for her devotion and involvement with the school throughout her years of retirement. The thousands of children of this district that have passed through Gladys Abraham School can be proud of the fact that they knew Ms. Gladys Abraham personally, and they too can strive to emulate her in their quest for excellence.”
Smith-Barry recently led the charge in the St. Thomas-St. John District to honor school namesakes, such as Ms. Abraham, that have made a profound impact in the schools and throughout the community. Along with highlighting Ms. Abraham’s academic accomplishments, work ethic and discipline, Smith-Barry also spoke about her great faith and service at the Nisky Moravian Church.
“Her steadfast love and humble service as a devout Christian and faithful member of the Nisky Moravian Church will also serve as an example of a life of service given without expecting anything in return,” Smith-Barry said Monday. “On behalf of my own family and on behalf of the administrators, faculties, staffs, and students of all our schools, I wish for her family God’s strength to bear the loss and the comfort and peace that comes from reflecting on her excellent life of service and fulfillment of her purpose here on earth. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”
