Virgin Islands middle school students who took the qualifying test on Friday, March 2, for participation in the Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University summer program will be recognized in award ceremonies planned in both school districts.
CTY students in the St. Thomas-St. John district will be honored at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 7 at Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, while St. Croix’s award ceremonyis set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the John H. Woodson Junior High School. The students took the big, bold first step towards full participation in CTY’s summer program, which offers a close up look at the college environment and the opportunity to participate in actual classes.
All territorial students who took CTY’s Talent Search test will receive certificates of participation. “Top Talent Search students will attend awards ceremonies in 20 states and the very top students can attend a national medal ceremony at Johns Hopkins University,” according to CTY’s Web site. “Challenging and inspiring courses in CTY’s Summer Programs and CTYOnline are open to students who qualify based on test results.”
CTY’s officials who will be onboard for the V.I. award ceremony include Karen Bond, senior director of external relations, and Neetu Dhawan-Gray, assistant director of School Parent and Community Relations.
