We The People Town Forum on Frederiksted Development Projects

The informal Frederiksted civic group, We The People, will be holding a town forum on the status of several new and long pending St. Croix commercial developments at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at Paquito’s Restaurant on Queen Mary Highway.

Representatives of the development company GlobeVest V.I. will be there to talk about proposals for a baseball, tennis, volleyball, and swimming complex in Frederiksted. There will also be other individuals addressing the status of several long-pending development proposals, including Williams and Punch and Golden Gaming, according to We The People member George Flores.

"We want to see what we can to do get some of these projects moving, and to try to put a little pressure on the Army Corps of Engineers to act on Williams and Punch," Flores said. The deadline for acting on the permit request has come and gone, but the Army Corps has not issued its final report, he said. Calls to the Army Corps for comment last week have not been returned to date.

Musician and civic activist Wayne "Bully" Petersen is circulating petitions in support of the proposed Frederiksted sports complex.

"We want to hear from the community and developers about where we stand and how to move forward," Flores said. "We don’t want to argue. We want to have a productive discussion. If you want to argue and make a disruption, don’t come, but if you want to talk about how we can move forward from here, come out to Paquito’s next Tuesday," Flores said.
