Lutheran Social Services Opens New Early Head Start School

Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands welcomes Cheryl Francis to be the first guest reader to students at 9 a.m. on April 19, at the newly opened Early Head Start School. The building is located at 2L and 2M Concordia, St. Croix, on the Northside Road between Country Day School and Straker Motors. The first day of school for the students was April 16.
Lutheran Social Services operates the only Early Head Start in the territory, which provides care and education services for infants and toddlers, ages birth to three years old as well as to pregnant women. The program has a deep commitment to and concern for the entire family. The purpose is to partner with parents to promote the development of the total child. They accomplish this goal by providing for their cognitive, physical, creative, social and emotional needs while assisting parents in learning the skills needed to support their child’s growth and development.
Early Head Start has been operating on the grounds of the Queen Louise Home for Children since 2003. The new facility is the second site and the six classrooms accommodate 48 children, bringing enrollment to 96 children. In addition, 24 pregnant women take part in the program, and it reaches over 120 individuals per school year.
