Medicare Part D Open Enrollment Ends On Dec. 7

All Medicare Part D beneficiaries are alerted that the 2011 open enrollment period to join, change or drop their prescription drug plan ends on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Beneficiaries who do not take advantage of open enrollment will have to wait until next year to make changes to their prescription drug plan, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
Additionally, a VI SHIP/Medicare representative will be on St. John from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2. St. John Medicare beneficiaries are encouraged to visit the VISHIP office located in the Tax Assessor’s Office at the Islandia Building for assistance.
Medicare beneficiaries are reminded to review their current prescription drug plan to determine if it adequately meets their needs in terms of cost, coverage and convenience. If not, they should contact the VI SHIP/Medicare office in their district to see the list of current plans available. Individuals who are satisfied with their current plan do not have to re-enroll.
To learn more or to obtain assistance with joining or changing a plan, call the VI SHIP office on St. Thomas at 714-4354 or on St. Croix at 772-7368. Beneficiaries may also call 1-800-MEDICARE or go online at www.medicare.com.
VI SHIP is a program federally funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and locally administered by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
