Sofia Carrasquillo Dies at 63

Sofia CarrasquilloSofia Carrasquillo of the JFK Housing Community died on Sunday, Aug. 14, at Melech Hospice House, in Tampa, Florida. She was 63 years old.

She is survived by her daughters: Elizabeth Romero, Sandra Boyce-Miller, Michelle and Carolyn Gonsales; sons: Rudy, Angel and Miguel Romero, Michael-Angelo, Ismael, Elijah and Eliakim Gonsales; sisters: Isabelle Halls, Iris Cruz and Virginia Carrasquillo; brothers: Eladio Ruiz, Angelino Cruz and Luis Carrasquillo; and grandchildren: Anthony Alvarez, Michelle, Jenny, Stevel, Michael, Angel Jr., Xavior, China, Amber and Samantha Romero, Gliselle De Jesus, Raheem, Raghib, Vanessa and Renessia Jackson, Iyanna, Emirah, Una and Daniel Alexander, Vonia and Vonique Petersen, Sherita Miller, Ismael Jr., Helena, Ismarie, Ya-Ismariel, Kyon, Ja’Zai, Elajah and Kimora Gonsales, Beverly and Ky’Mani Parsons, Saidah Marrero, Ishmael and Jahnyah Greenidge.
She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Shalissa and Selmo Watts Jr.; daughters-in-law: Elizabeth Alvarez, Claudette Rogers, Maria Gonsales, Morchelle Oliver, Stephanie Andrew Romero and Loretta Gonsales; sons-in-law: Clinton Miller Sr., David Alexander, Maurice Greenidge and Matthew Bowens; sisters-in-law: Leonida Cruz, Julia Ruiz, Teresa Cruz and Marina Cruz; brother-in-law, Ethol Halls. nieces: Rita Petersen, Brenda, Tysha and Yesenia Carrasquillo, Margarita Felix, Grace Teafley, Cindy Caffee, Nancy Serrano, Angie Cruz, Marsha Smith, Lisa and Gladys Hernandez, Marisol and Lisette Cruz, and others too numerous to mention; and nephews: Israel Miranda, Eddie, Tony and Rey Felix, Luis, Edwin and Juanito Hernandez, Randall Michael, Angelino Cruz Jr., Juan Enrique Cruz, and others too numerous to mention.
Other survivors include special friends: Luz Rodriguez, Melba Graham, Carlos Rhymer, Myra Joseph, Elba Ross, Medora Granville, Luz Soto, Tashorna Thompson, Andre Burke, Petrie Joseph, the Martinez family, Rena Bell James, and Kwame and Kameel Allen; friends: Daryl Brewster, Avery James, the Simmonds family, the Jackson family, the Miller family and the JFK Housing community; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A viewing will take place at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at The Freewill Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.
