V.I. Answer Desk: Are Retirement Incentives Being Paid?

Source reader Gwendolyn Hazard wants to know if government workers who retired under a previous retirement incentive act had received their incentives.

“I’ve been hearing, especially from teachers who retired during the last incentive push and never received their incentive pay,” she wrote.

Unfortunately, the Answer Desk has been unable to get a definitive response.
Upon being contacted, Julia Watthey in Government House’s Public Information Office referred questions to the Personnel Department’s public information officer, Lisa Antal.

After two phone messages spaced over four working days were left, she finally called back Aug. 5.

She promised to call last Monday (Aug. 8) with an answer after she spoke to Personnel Commissioner Kenneth Hermon Jr. but did not. She then didn’t return a phone call the following day either.

Personnel presented its budget request to the Senate Finance Committee this Monday; if Antal provides a response this week, the Answer Desk will let readers know.
